I have chosen to incorporate elements of 3D printing into my collection to add a point of difference. 3D printing is “the process of creating complex 3-dimensional objects from 2-dimensional models” (KAD 3D website, 2021). 3D printing enables you to produce complex shapes using less material than traditional manufacturing methods. The process works by laying down thin layers of material in the form of liquid or powdered plastic, metal or cement, and then fusing the layers together (Investopedia website, 2020). I have manually draped and created moulds that perfectly fit the body that will be 3D printed.
I aim to create small amount of 3D elements, for example, a 3D printed bra cup to accompany the corsets, a 3D printed mini under bust bra top and a 3D printed hip extension. I have yet to create any 3D printed samples but. I hope to before the start of semester 2. I have created some moulds using calico that I would like to be 3D printed, which I will attach images of. The 3D printed moulds are to be worn on top of the corsets as an added feature. The white casting of 3d printing will efficiently accompany the minimalistic approach to my collection.
While, I have yet to be able to attempt using the 3D printing machine due to COVID, I have created these moulds in which I would like to have3D printed for my collection.
