Machine Knitting

One of my chosen creative elements for my final collection is machine knitting. I will be creating some of my undergarments, that will be worn underneath the main corset, as well as some accessories using machine knitting. Some of my undergarments are also going to be made with power mesh, however, this will accompany the knit wear.

A knitting machine is a device used to create knitted fabrics in a semi or fully automated fashion. There are numerous types of knitting machines, ranging from simple spool or board templates with no moving parts too highly complex mechanisms controlled by electronics. Machine knitting is generally faster than hand knitting and also has the easily ability to create detailed texture and design styles through the use of punch cards.

I have chosen machine knitting, as it is going to allow me to add texture and my own creative touch to the collection by actually making my own fabrication. I am going to be sticking to the same colour palette that was desired for the collection as it fits well with my concept. Very neutral undertones that will accompany the white and black cotton canvas corsets. The minimalistic approach to the collection with the very neutral tones is a key design element to the collection. I aim for the texture of the knitting and yarn to stand out and be noticeable. I aim to give off the feel of a rather soft and subtle look, with very real, powerful and meanings and heavy structure behind each piece.
